Class Dojo REWARD IDEAS

So, many people were excited about my post on the Dojo, but they still had questions.

This is how I use it throughout the day:

1. I log into Class Dojo every morning.
2. Whenever a child comes in, they are able to see my morning message as well as their running weekly total. I believe this gives them a chance to either fix their behavior that day, or keep on keepin' on!
3. During class, I simply MINIMIZE the screen and/or Create a New Tab on the internet if something in my presentation uses it.

 SEQUENCE OF LESSON

1. Show the Matter video as a pre-cursor to the learning.
2. Have kids find words on the Tagxedo jumble that they know and are relevant to Matter.
3. Have them watch the video about the three states of matter
4. Sort-A-Rama at their tables/cooperative groups
5. Use the iPads to create a Popplet.

US Immigration MAGNET SUMMARY

Immigrants came to the United States because of both push and pull factors. Often they were pushed out of their home countries because of war, poverty, or discrimination. They were attracted or pulled to the United States because of promises of economic opportunity, religious freedom, and political and social equality.

My children will be completing this Magnet Summary with a partner. This a great way to add writing into the content areas and help children understand how to summarize longer text.

My husband teaches 6th grade Social Studies. I wanted to share one of his ideas, since he is not much of a Blogger :)

Station Work: Children rotate to different numbered stations and take notes along the way. This time, they are learning about ancient EGYPT!
