CCSS 5th grade Reading Vocabulary

Yes...I know we are off from school today, but as many of my teacher friends know, we are NEVER off from schoolwork! So, with that being said, I have just spent the last hour or so creating what looks like nothing---NWEA MAP words for reading in the RIT bands 201-220.

I am trying to fill-in-the-gaps with words that don't show up in a TPT purchase I made of Literary Devices this summer.

Land and Water Science Unit

I found a very quick powerpoint that can either be used whole group, or as a differentiation tool for the students who need less of the "bells and whistles" in order to understand content vocabulary in science.

Author's Bias

A few years ago, I attended a Middle School conference in Myrtle Beach on teaching and learning. I got an AWESOME idea that I revamped and brought back to my 5th graders. I am planning on teaching this to them in small group this week:

It's been that long since my last BLOG POST?!? Wow!

I have been super busy these days, but I promise a LOT has been going on in my 5th grade class~

Not much to show, picture-wise, but I played on something I saw on Pinterest to motivate my kids to do their very best on Tuesday's READING MAP Test! However, unlike the wonderful early-childhood teachers who used fabulous colored paper and cool fonts--I a m OUT of ink and the only supplies I have at home are good-old-fashioned index cards and a Blue Sharpie! Eh! it's works!!!

ELA Common Core: workstation

I have been busy all night (yes, my Saturday night) on the computer creating this ELA workstation for my students.  What did I use? Why, the Crosswalk Coach for the CCSS of course!  I am hoping this will clear up a few questions and problems my students come across on their MAP test and Compass Odyssey lessons. Also, in our ImagineIt units, we are supposed to be constantly exposing the researching-thing all year!

I plan to create matching games with the definitions and examples as well as have students work in their Literary groups to practice PASS-like questions. It's nothing SUPER-FANCY, but it's crunch time for me---PASS Writing is in MARCH!!!!!

World War II told through COMICS

I created these comics,
based on my SC standards.

I used the iPad app
"COMIC STRIP."

My children were very
engaged and enjoyed the
lesson.

The next day, they were able
to use a similiar app for the
next standard.
